Bobcat tennis teams blank East Central

ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College tennis teams overpowered East Central Community College here Monday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Courts.

JCJC won both the women and men’s matches by 9-0 scores. Both Bobcat teams are now 3-1 on the season.

The Bobcats will host Itawamba on Tuesday and Co-Lin on Thursday. Both matches begin at 2 p.m.

Lady Bobcats 9, Lady Warriors 0

JCJC got an 8-4 win from Rachel Jefcoat and Alison Rudolph in No. 1 doubles over Cassie Munn and Lauren Lurk. Jefcoat then defeated Munn, 6-3, 6-2, in No. 1 singles and Arlette Cochran downed Lurk, 6-1, 6-0, in No. 2 singles.

The Lady Bobcats won the other matches by forfeits: Cochran and Brandy Freeman in No. 2 doubles, Lauren Carpenter and Amber Long in No. 3 doubles; Freeman in No. 3 singles, Rudolph in No. 4 singles, Carpenter in No. 5 singles and Long in No. 6 singles.

Bobcats 9, Warriors 0

JCJC’s Sam Thorold and Cade Sherman took No. 1 doubles over Zac White and Jason Loris, 8-3. Nick Williams and Armand Deniakos beat Matt Griffin and Danny Smith, 8-3, in No. 2 doubles and Nathan Burkett and Casper Wansley defeated Richie Ferguson and Josh Blackburn, 8-2, in No. 3 doubles.

Thorold blanked White, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 1 singles, Williams shutout Loris, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 2 singles, Sherman whipped Griffin, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 3 singles, Deniakos beat Smith, 6-1, 6-0, in No. 4 singles, Josh Agee downed Ferguson, 6-0, 7-6 (2), in No. 5 singles and Wansley blanked Blackburn, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 6 singles.
