Bobcats finish fourth in Co-Lin Invitational

BROOKHAVEN – The Jones County Junior College Bobcats finished fourth in the Co-Lin Community College Invitational here Monday at Brookhaven Country Club.

The Bobcats led the tournament after the first round when they posted a 306, but shot a 314 on Monday to finish at 320.

The host Wolves won the event, shooting a 299 on Monday to go with a first round 315 for a 614. That was two shots better than Mississippi Gulf Coast. The Bulldogs fashioned a 296 on Monday after firing a 320 on Monday for a 616. East Mississippi was third, posting a 315-304 – 619.

Individually, Miss. Gulf Coast’s Jared Smith was the tournament medalist with a 74-73 – 147, 5-over par.

Bobcats Mitchell Smith and Logan Parish finished in a tie for second. After shooting a 73 to lead the tournament on Monday at Co-Lin’s Wolf Hollow Golf Club, Smith shot a 78 on Monday to finish at 151, 9-over par. Parish shot a 73 on Monday after shooting 78 on Sunday to finish at 151. Co-Lin’s Bennett Ruschewski and East Mississippi’s Ian McAdams both shot a 77-74 – 151.

Other scores for JCJC were Andrew McMahan with a 79-79 – 158; Ryan Blackwell 76-84 – 160 and Markas Holifield 80-87 – 167. Playing as individuals, JCJC’s Braxton Spiers shot 84-84 – 168 and Jared Hodge posted 92-89 – 181.

The Bobcat golfers will next participate in the Northwest Mississippi Community College Invitational on March 21-22. Round one takes place at North Creek Country Club in Horn Lake and round two will be at Wedgewood Country Club in Olive Branch.
