Lady Bobcats bounce back to win game two at East Central

DECATUR – Jones County Junior College split a pair of South Division softball games here Sunday afternoon.
East Central Community College took game one, 9-2. The Lady Bobcats bounced back to claim the nightcap, 5-2.
JCJC is now 15-5 overall, 1-3 in division play. East Central is 8-5 overall and 2-2 in league play.
The Lady Bobcats travel to East Mississippi for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday. East Central hosts Mississippi Delta in a doubleheader on Monday.
Lady Bobcats 5, Lady Warriors 2
In game two, Ginger Lonergan improved to 7-1 by going the distance. She scattered eight hits, walked three and struck out seven.
JCJC took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Mallory Cowart walked and was sacrificed to second by Haley Brooke Smith. Shannon Mosley then followed with an RBI single. After a walk to Alex Faciane, K.T. Perkins delivered a run-scoring single.
The Lady Bobcats went up 3-0 in the second. Heidi Garcich reached on an error, stole second and scored on Cowart’s single.
ECCC cut the lead to 3-1 in the third. Lauren Nicholas singled, took second on a passed ball and scored on a single by Kasie Buckley.
The Lady Bobcats added a run in the fourth when Stacia Whitaker led off with a single and Jasmine Jefferson entered to run for her. She was sacrificed to second by Garcich and Smith came through with a run-scoring single.
JCJC took a 5-1 lead in the top of the fifth when Perkins and McDaniel had back-to-back, two-out doubles to plate a run.
ECCC got their final run in the bottom of the fifth. Nicholas and Buckley both singled and Nicholas scored when the Lady Bobcats committed an error.
Perkins doubled and singled for JCJC, while Cowart and Smith each singled twice. McDaniel had a double, while Mosley and Whitaker singled.
Nicholas singled three times for ECCC and Buckley singled twice. Buckley was the losing pitcher, allowing nine hits. She struck out four and walked two.
Lady Warriors 9, Lady Bobcats 2
JCJC committed three errors in the bottom of the first inning, which helped East Central score six runs – only one of which was earned.
The Lady Warriors led 7-0 after two.
The Lady Bobcats got their two runs in the fifth. Whitaker and Garcich both reached on errors with two outs. Cowart followed with an RBI single and another error led to the second run.
Cowart and Mosley each singled for JCJC’s only hits of the game.
Lauren Candies, 8-4, took the loss. She gave up 12 hits, struck out three and walked one.
Taylor Bailey tossed a two-hitter and got the win.
Brittany Pounders homered, tripled and singled for East Central.
