RAYMOND – Vito Perna singled three times, Jay Dedeaux homered and Josh Palmer pitched five solid innings in relief to lift the Jones County Junior College Bobcats to a 6-2 victory over Coahoma Community College here Friday afternoon at Joe Moss Field on the campus of Hinds Community College.

Earlier in the day, Panola Junior College (Texas) got a grand slam home run to cap a five-run, sixth inning and blanked the Bobcats, 5-0.

JCJC, 10-5, will travel to Northwest Mississippi Community College for a noon doubleheader on Monday. The Bobcats will return home on Thursday to face Kishwaukee Community College (Ill.) in a 2 p.m. twinbill at Community Bank Park. Those games will be audiocast on www.jcjc.tv with Lance Pittman on the call.

Bobcats 6, Coahoma 2

JCJC jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Nick Ray drew a two-out walk, Perna singled and Darion Hamilton followed with an RBI single to right.

Coahoma tied it in the second when Sentez Glass reached on an error, stole second, advanced to third on Stefan Hairston’s single and scored on Corwin Buchanan’s sacrifice fly.

The Tigers took a 2-1 lead in the third. Domonique Griffith led off with a single, stole second and scored on Leroy Wilson’s single.

Jones would tie it at 2-2 in the bottom of the third. Ladd Rhodes was hit by a pitch to start the inning and went to second when Chad Guice singled. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and Perna’s single drove in Rhodes.

The Bobcats took the lead for good when Dedeaux led off the fourth inning with a home run to make it 3-2.

They closed the scoring with three runs in the fifth. Perna led off with a single, Zach Allen walked and Dedeaux was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Blake Bowman then hit a two-run single down the leftfield line. A Rhodes’ fielder’s choice drove in the game’s final run.

Palmer entered in the top of the third in relief of starter Chase Stewart. Palmer, 2-1, went the final five innings, allowed three hits, struck out two, walked one and hit one as he recorded the victory. Stewart went two-plus innings, gave up three hits, walked two and struck out two.

Perna had three singles, Guice singled twice and Dedeaux homered for the Bobcats. Bowman and Hamilton added singles.

Griffith singled twice for the Tigers, while Kendrick Barnes tripled. Hairston, Wilson and Buchanan added singles.

Jesse Barnes started and took the loss for Coahoma. He went 4 1/3 innings, gave up seven hits, walked three, hit four and struck out three. Montreal Robertson went the final 1 2/3 innings, gave up one hit, struck out one and walked two.

Coahoma faces Southwest Mississippi on Wednesday in Jackson.

Ponies 5, Bobcats 0

Starter Logan Riddell pitched well, but the Bobcats could not muster any offense to support him.

The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the sixth when Brett Pirtie and John Alexander led off the inning for the Ponies with a pair of singles. That chased Riddell and brought reliever Jaron Bailey into the game.

Bailey retired Kameron Walker on a popup, but Steven Martinez then singled to drive in Pirtie and the other runners advanced a base on the throw home. The Bobcats then elected to intentionally walk Nic Ammirati to load the bases.

David Perkins followed with a grand slam home run to give Panola a 5-0 lead.

Riddell, 2-2, went five-plus innings and got the loss. He allowed seven hits, two runs, walked none and struck out three. Bailey tossed an inning, gave up three runs and two hits.

JCJC was limited to three hits – singles by Rhodes in the first, Allen in the fifth and Graham Odom in the seventh.

Andrew Del Colle and Jason Gibson combined on the Panola shutout. Del Colle started and went the first three innings. He gave up one hit, walked one and struck out one. Gibson went the final four innings and got the win, allowing two hits and giving up a walk. He had five strikeouts.
