Bobcat tennis teams whip Northeast

ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College tennis teams successfully opened the 2011 season here Monday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Courts.
Both teams defeated the Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers, 8-1.
The Bobcat netters will have two more matches this week.
They host Meridian Community College at 2 p.m. on Wednesday and travel to Holmes Community College for a 2 p.m. Thursday match.
Northeast takes on Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College at noon on Tuesday in Biloxi.
Lady Bobcats 8, Lady Tigers 1
The JCJC women had several outstanding performances in beating NEMCC.
JCJC’s Rachel Jefcoat defeated Cassidy Beasley, 2-6, 6-3, 10-7, in No. 1 singles. In No. 2 singles, JCJC’s Arlette Cochran beat Monica Pruitt, 6-0, 6-1. JCJC’s Brandy Freeman won No. 3 singles over Amanda Rorie, 6-1, 6-1. JCJC’s Alison Rudolph took No. 4 singles over Chelsey Whitaker, 3-6, 6-3, 10-4. In No. 5 singles, JCJC’s Lauren Carpenter defeated Emily Burk, 6-4, 6-0. NEMCC’s Marcey Anne Sykes beat Amber Long, 6-1, 6-3, in No. 6 singles.
In doubles, Jefcoat and Rudolph beat Beasley and Rorie, 8-1, in No. 1 doubles. In No. 2 doubles, Cochran and Freeman beat Burk and Whitaker, 8-5. In No. 3 doubles, Carpenter and Long defeated Pruitt and Sykes, 9-8 (3).
Bobcats 8, Tigers 1
The Bobcats were equally impressive on the men’s side.
JCJC’s Sam Thorold took No. 1 singles over Preston Wade, 6-1, 6-0. Nick Williams of Jones beat Ben Ford, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 2 singles. JCJC’s Cade Sherman knocked off Ben Nhek, 6-2, 6-0, in No. 3 singles. JCJC’s Armand Deniakos downed Ben Ferrell, 6-0, 6-4, in No. 4 singles. Mitchell Smith of Jones claimed No. 5 singles over Ward Bynum, 6-4, 6-1. Casper Wansley beat Brandon Gardner, 6-4, 6-4, in No. 6 singles.
Thorold and Sherman beat Wade and Nhek, 8-2, in No. 1 doubles. Williams and Deniakos downed Ford and Matt Murphy, 8-4, in No. 2 doubles. Ferrell and Bynum of NEMCC defeated Smith and Wansley, 8-5, in No. 3 doubles.
In some extra singles matches, JCJC’s Josh Agee beat Murphy, 7-6 (3), 6-2, and JCJC’s Nathan Burkett downed Taylor Dees, 6-2, 6-2.
In an extra doubles match, NEMCC’s Gardner and Dees downed JCJC’s Colby Prince and Thomas Morgan, 8-6.
