WESSON – One day after defeating the Jones County Junior College Bobcats 73-72 on a 3-point shot at the buzzer, the Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans were knocked out of the MACJC Tournament before they ever got on the court.
Minutes before the Trojans were to play the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community Bulldogs on Wednesday afternoon here at Mullen Gymnasium in the semifinals, conference officials discovered that MDCC had played an ineligible player since the Christmas holiday break.
There was talk that the Bobcats could possibly re-enter the tournament in Delta’s place. However, after several discussions, it was determined to let Mississippi Gulf Coast advance to Thursday’s 8 p.m. championship game against Pearl River.
The Wildcats defeated East Mississippi 61-52 in a semifinal contest Wednesday night.
The JCJC Bobcats will still continue their season in the Region 23 Tournament on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton next week. The tournament bracket will be announced on Friday afternoon.
