ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College basketball teams will be competing in the MACJC State Tournament Feb. 21-24 at Mullen Gymnasium on the campus of Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson.
But the seeding for the men’s tournament has not been determined because Mississippi Delta hosts Itawamba in a makeup game on Saturday. That game was postponed because of inclement weather earlier this month.
One thing is certain at this point. All games featuring JCJC teams will be shown live on www.jcjc.tv with Lance Pittman and Mark Easley on the call.
Fresh off a 90-80 upset of 8th-ranked Co-Lin, which featured a school-record 53-point performance from guard Tanecka Carey, the Lady Bobcats (17-6) will be the second seed out of the South Division and will take on the No. 3 team from the North, Holmes (13-7), at 1 p.m. on Monday.
The Lady Bobcats are vying for their third straight state championship.
Co-Lin (19-2) is the top seed from the South and will play North No. 4 seed Northeast (11-11) at 6 p.m. on Monday. Itawamba (16-6), the North No. 2 team, plays Pearl River (11-9), the South’s No. 3 team at 7:45 p.m. East Mississippi (14-8), the North’s top seed, faces Mississippi Gulf Coast (15-8), the No. 4 team from the South, at 2:45 p.m.
The JCJC/Holmes winner meets the East Mississippi/Gulf Coast winner at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Co-Lin/Northeast winner plays the Itawamba/Pearl River winner at 6 p.m.
The women’s championship game will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
The JCJC men (13-10) are the No. 3 seed from the South and will face the North Division’s No. 2 team at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
The only certain thing from the North Division at this point is that East Mississippi (20-3) is the champion and top seed. There are three teams – Itawamba, Northeast and Mississippi Delta – still trying to see where they will be slotted for the final three tournament spots.
Gulf Coast (16-7) is the South’s top seed and will play the North’s No. 4 seed at 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday. East Mississippi faces the South’s No. 4 seed, East Central (13-10), at 6 p.m. and Pearl River (19-4), the South’s No. 2 team, meets the North’s No. 3 team at 7:45 p.m.
The JCJC/North No. 2 winner meets the Gulf Coast/North No. 4 winner at 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The East Mississippi/East Central winner faces the Pearl River/North No. 3 winner at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.
The men’s championship game will be at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday.
