ELLISVILLE – Ginger Lonergan could not possibly top her performance in the circle last week.

But she came pretty close.

Five days after throwing a perfect game against Jeff Davis Community College (Ala.), Lonergan faced the Lady War Hawks again here Wednesday afternoon at Community Bank Park.

This time, she retired the first ten batters she faced, ended up with a one-hitter and paced the Lady Bobcats to a 9-1, six-inning victory.

In game two, the Lady Bobcats got a five-inning, two-hitter from Lauren Candies and whipped Jeff Davis, 12-1.

JCJC improves to 6-1 and will have a big day of softball on Saturday when they host the Gwen Magee Invitational. Four games take place that day with LSU-Eunice meeting East Mississippi Community College in the 11 a.m. opener. JCJC meets the Lady Bengals at 1 p.m. The Lady Bobcats then face EMCC at 3 and 5 p.m. to close the event.

Jeff Davis, 2-4, will host Pensacola State College (Fla.) on Friday.

Lonergan (3-0) was overpowering again for JCJC.

She had 12 strikeouts against the Lady War Hawks, after fanning 11 in last week’s 8-0 victory.

After retiring the first ten batters, Lonergan faced Rebecca Wright, who hit a ground ball right back to the mound. Lonergan fielded it cleanly, but overthrew first baseman Stacia Whitaker for an error.

Jeff Davis’ only hit came when Danielle McCastle led off the fifth inning with a double to left field. She would advance to third on a wild pitch and later scored on the front end of a double steal after Amber Steadham had walked.

The Lady Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the first when Heidi Garcich led off with a walk, advanced two bases on a wild pitch and scored on Haley Brooke Smith’s sacrifice fly to center.

JCJC made it 2-0 in the second when K.T. Perkins led off with a single, was sacrificed to second by Kayla McDaniel and scored on Whitaker’s single.

The Lady Bobcats would score four times in the fourth.

Jessmar Walters led off with a single and was replaced by courtesy runner Jasmine Jefferson. Jefferson stole second and scored on a hit by Perkins. After McDaniel walked, Whitaker sacrificed. Mallory Cowart then ripped a two-run double to right-center and Smith’s line shot single would score Cowart and make it 6-0.

The Lady Bobcats put it away with three runs in the sixth. Whitaker struck out, but reached when the catcher did not hold the ball. Cowart followed with a walk and Garcich reached on a bunt single. Smith reached on an error, which allowed two runs to score and Shannon Mosley’s fielder’s choice drove in the final run.

Alex Faciane doubled and singled for JCJC, while Perkins singled twice. Cowart had a double, while Whitaker, Walters, Smith and Garcich singled.

Laura Bishop started and took the loss for Jeff Davis. She struck out one, walked two, allowed six hits, five runs (four earned) and went 3 1/3 innings. Jessica Myrick went 1 2/3 innings, gave up one run and two hits. Loren McVicker finished up on the hill and gave up one hit.

The Lady Bobcats got a run in the second when Mosley reached on an infield hit and later scored on an error.

JCJC then scored six times in the third. A bases-clearing triple to the center field wall by Smith was the big blow of the inning. Whitaker and Cowart added RBI singles and Walters had an RBI with a sacrifice fly to center.

Candies (3-1) struck out five and walked two en route to the win. She had lost to Jeff Davis, 5-1, last week.

Smith tripled and singled twice for the Lady Bobcats, while Whitaker had two singles. Faciane had a double, with Mosley, Perkins and Cowart getting singles.
