Lady Bobcats sweep Bishop State

MOBILE, Ala. – The Jones County Junior College women’s softball team swept Bishop State Community College (Ala.) here Saturday afternoon at Texas Street Park.
The Lady Bobcats won the opener, 7-0, and took the nightcap, 4-1.
JCJC is now 4-1 on the season and will host Jeff Davis Community College (Ala.) in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday at Community Bank Park.
The games will air on www.jcjc.tv with Lance Pittman on the call. Airtime is 2:55 p.m.
Lady Bobcats 7, Lady Wildcats 0
One day after tossing a perfect game vs. Jeff Davis Community College (Ala.), Ginger Lonergan was back at it again.
Lonergan (2-0) threw a complete-game, two-hitter, struck out eight and walked one to lead the Lady Bobcats.
JCJC took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Stacia Whitaker drew a two-out walk and scored on Aaron Herrington’s two-out double. JCJC went up 3-0 in the fourth when Alex Faciane singled, K.T. Perkins was hit by a pitch and Jade McLeod reached on a fielder’s choice to load the bases. Kayla McDaniel would deliver a two-out, two-run single.
The Lady Bobcats added a run in the fifth. Haley Brooke Smith led off with a double, stole third and scored on Shannon Mosley’s single to make it 4-0.
JCJC would score three times in the seventh. Smith was hit by a pitch and Faciane had a one-out, RBI single. Perkins would follow with an RBI double and McLeod’s double scored Perkins.
Smith had two doubles and two runs scored, while Perkins had two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Faciane had two singles, two runs scored and drove in a run. Herrington had a double, RBI and scored a run, while McLeod had a double and an RBI. McDaniel had a single and two RBIs, while Mosley had a single and an RBI.
Lady Bobcats 4, Lady Wildcats 1
Lauren Candies (2-1) went the distance, allowed five hits, walked none and fanned two.
The Lady Bobcats scored in the top of the first when Mosley singled and would later score on an error.
After Bishop St. tied it in the bottom of the first, JCJC took the lead 2-1 in the third. Mosley singled with one out and Faciane tripled to center to drive her home.
The Lady Bobcats added their final two runs in the fourth. Perkins singled and scored on McDaniel’s triple. Mallory Cowart’s sacrifice fly scored McDaniel.
Mosley was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with four singles and two runs scored. McDaniel tripled twice, drove in a run and scored a run. Faciane tripled, singled and drove in a run. Smith had two singles, while Perkins and Jessmar Walters added singles.
