JCJC's Lonergan tosses perfect game

BREWTON, Ala. – Jones County Junior College pitcher Ginger Lonergan threw a perfect game to lead the Lady Bobcats to an 8-0 victory over Jeff Davis Community College (Ala.) here Friday afternoon in game two of a doubleheader.
Lonergan, who also recorded 11 strikeouts, is a freshman from Dominican High School in Gretna, La.
Jeff Davis won the opener, 5-1.
JCJC took a 2-0 lead in game two when Haley Brooke Smith singled with one out and Shannon Mosley followed with a single. Alex Faciane then walked to load the bases and K.T. Perkins and Jade McLeod followed with bases loaded walks.
The Lady Bobcats went up 4-0 in the second when Mallory Cowart and Mosley scored on wild pitches.
They increased the lead to 7-0 in the fourth. Mosley was hit by a pitch, Faciane singled and Perkins walked to load the bases with no outs. McLeod’s fielder’s choice drove in Mosley and Jessmar Walters followed with a pinch-hit double to score Faciane and Perkins.
The Lady Bobcats closed the scoring in the sixth when McLeod walked and was replaced by pinch-runner Jasmine Jefferson. Jefferson stole second, took third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch.
JCJC ended the game with eight hits.
In the opener, the Lady Bobcats scored their lone run in the fifth. Jefferson scored on Cowart’s two-out double. JCJC had three hits in the game.
Lauren Candies, 1-1, took the loss. She gave up five runs (two earned), six hits, walked none and fanned six.
The Lady Bobcats, 2-1, will meet Bishop State in Mobile, Ala., at noon Saturday.
The next home action at Community Bank Park in Ellisville will be on Wednesday when JCJC hosts Jeff Davis. Game times are at 3 and 5 p.m. and the doubleheader will have a live audiocast with Lance Pittman on the call. Airtime is 2:55 p.m.
Jeff Davis is now 1-1 on the season.
