JCJC golf team opens season Sunday at The Oaks GC in Pass Christian

ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College golf team will make its 2011 debut on Sunday-Monday in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Invitational.
The MGCCC event will take place at The Oaks Golf Club in Pass Christian. There will be a noon shotgun start on Sunday and tee times will be used on Monday. Players will have an opportunity to play a practice round on Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcat golf team will be under the leadership of Laurel Country Club professional Jeff Jennings this year. In addition, the JCJC team has moved up to the Division II golf level in the NJCAA this spring.
Returning sophomores on the Bobcat team are Andrew McMahan of Long Beach and Hattiesburg’s Bing Waldron, who graduated from Oak Grove High School. Mendenhall sophomore Mitchell Smith of Simpson Academy played as a freshman at JCJC two years ago.
Freshmen on this year’s team are Ryan Blackwell of West Jones, Jared Hodge and Markas Holifield of Northeast Jones, Braxton Spiers of Pearl River Central and Brandon West of Richton.
The Bobcat golfers will compete in the Co-Lin Community College Invitational on March 6-7 at Wolf Hollow Golf Club in Wesson and Brookhaven Country Club. They follow that up with the Northwest Mississippi Community College Invitational on March 21-22 at North Creek Country Club in Horn Lake and Wedgewood Country Club in Olive Branch. The final regular season tournament will be the East Mississippi Community College Invitational on April 3-4 at the Mississippi State University Golf Course in Starkville.
The MACJC State Tournament takes place on April 11-12 at Deerfield Country Club in Jackson and the Region 23 Tournament will be held on May 1-2 at Riverbirch Golf Club in Amory.
