Itawamba takes pair from JCJC

 FULTON – The Jones County Junior College basketball teams returned to action after a one-month break here Wednesday night at the Davis Event Center on the campus of Itawamba Community College.

In the nightcap, the Itawamba men rallied from a four-point halftime deficit and defeated the Bobcats, 86-81. The Bobcats had beaten the Indians 71-57 on Nov. 18 at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.

Brandon Givens paced JCJC, 4-6, with 20 points. Kadeem Fleming added 16, Kelvin Nixon had 12 and Derrious Gilmore and Rico Rankins had 10 each.

Melvin Morgan led the Indians, 5-6, with 28 points. Todd Nelson added 21 and Nick Moncure had 14.

JCJC led 40-36 at halftime.

Earlier, the Lady Bobcats dropped a 77-48 decision to ICC. The Lady Indians had beaten Jones 80-79 on Nov. 18 in Ellisville.

Southern Miss signee Tanecka Carey led JCJC, 7-3, with 19 points and Lauren Douglas added 8.

Jameika Hoskins led four Lady Indians, 8-3, in double figures with 18 points. Shay Bonner added 14, Anna Dill had 12 and LaPrecious Naylon had 11.

ICC held a 36-25 advantage at halftime.

The Bobcat teams conclude their two-game swing to north Mississippi on Thursday in Booneville against Northeast Mississippi Community College. The women’s game begins at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7 p.m. Fans can listen to the contests at

The Bobcat teams resume South Division play on Monday at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. The women’s game tips off at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m. Those games will air (audio only) on Airtime will be 5:55 p.m.

The next home games for JCJC will be on Jan. 13 against Delgado Community College (La.). The women’s game begins at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7 p.m. Those games will be televised live on with Lance Pittman and Mark Easley on the call. Airtime will be 4:55 p.m.
