ELLISVILLE – Several former Jones County Junior College Bobcats had big days on the gridiron on Saturday.

Former Bobcat wide receiver Tebiarus Gill set a R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Record with three touchdown receptions – all in the first half – to help the Troy Trojans whip the Ohio University Bobcats, 48-21, on Saturday night in the Louisiana Superdome.

Gill had touchdown receptions of 31, 17 and 26 yards as the Trojans built a 38-7 halftime lead. The former Mobile Vigor standout finished the game with four receptions for 80 yards.

Another ex-Bobcat, Riley Flowers of Geneva, Ala., played in the game as a defensive tackle for Troy.

In Delta State’s heartbreaking, 20-17 loss to Minnesota-Duluth in the championship of the NCAA Division II playoffs, former Bobcats Darrell Leopold and Chase Sherman started at center and left guard, respectively. Ex-Bobcat Tyler Caldwell was the DSU punter. Former Bobcat Robbie Mayers played in the game in the defensive line.

Leopold, Caldwell and Mayers are from Laurel High School, while Sherman is from D’Iberville.

Another Bobcat will suit up in a bowl game this week.

Defensive end Tyrunn Walker has started all 12 games for the 9-3 Tulsa Golden Hurricane. Walker is expected to start in Friday’s Hawaii Bowl as the Hurricane takes on the 10-3 Hawaii Rainbows. Kickoff is 7 p.m. on ESPN.

Walker has 40 tackles, 10 tackles for 50 yards in losses and 4.5 sacks for minus 29 yards this year. He also has three pass breakups, two quarterback hurries, two recovered fumbles and one forced fumble this season.
