Lady Bobcats edge MCC; Meridian outscores Bobcats, 113-107

 MERIDIAN – Fans witnessed a pair of high-scoring games here Monday night at Graham Gymnasium.

In the women’s game, Southern Miss signee Tanecka Carey scored 34 points to help the Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats to an 87-85 victory over the Meridian Community College Lady Eagles.

In the men’s game, Meridian outlasted JCJC, 113-107.

The Bobcat teams will take to the road again next Monday at East Mississippi Community College.

Lady Bobcats 87, Lady Eagles 85

JCJC trailed 47-37 at halftime, but rallied for the victory.

Alondra Rivers had 13 to follow Carey’s game-high effort. Kianna Harris and Kierro Frost had 11 points each, while Elyssa McKenzie had 10.

Norianna Haynes pumped in 30 points for the Lady Eagles, while Chasity Kearney had 25.

The Lady Bobcats improve to 4-2, while MCC drops to 4-3.

Eagles 113, Bobcats 107

Meridian led 61-55 at halftime and ended up winning the game by six points.

Brandon Givens led Jones with 32 points, while Kelvin Nixon added 18, Kadeem Fleming had 17, Derrious Gilmore followed with 16 and Rico Rankins had 13.

The Eagles got 29 points from Deangelo Priar, 24 from Emmanuel Donald 24, 19 from Travis Fredimon, 12 from Pierre Crawford and 10 from Nick Watkins.

The Bobcats are now 3-3 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 6-1.
