Bobcats post road wins at Bishop State

MOBILE, Ala. – It was a successful evening for the Jones County Junior College basketball teams here Tuesday night.
The Lady Bobcats whipped homestanding Bishop State Community College (Ala.), 69-45, while the JCJC men picked up their first win of the year with a 78-66 decision over the Wildcats.
JCJC returns home for a pair of games next week. The Bobcats will host Northeast Mississippi Community College on Monday and Itawamba Community College on Nov. 18.
The women’s games will begin at 5 p.m. both nights, followed by the men’s games at 7 p.m. The games will be shown live on JCJC-TV at www.jcjc.tv with Lance Pittman and Mark Easley on the call. Airtime will be 4:55 both nights.
Bobcats 78, Wildcats 66
JCJC scored most of their points off the charity stripe.
The Bobcats were 40-of-55 off the free throw line. Brandon Givens had 22 points, including a 14-of-16 effort from the free throw line. Kadeem Fleming and Kelvin Nixon added 15 points each. Nixon was 11-of-14 from the charity stripe. Tiaj Kelly added 11 points. Kelly led the team in rebounds with ten, while Albert Peterson added eight boards.
Jamarcus Blackmon, Kimric Dixon and Joshua Davis had 13 points each for Bishop State, while Jeremy Bailey added 10. The Wildcats were 22-of-31 from the line.
Bishop State was called for 34 fouls, while JCJC was whistled for 26. The Bobcats, who outrebounded the hosts 36-20, led 43-34 at halftime.
The Bobcats are now 1-2, while the Wildcats fall to 1-2.
Lady Bobcats 69, Lady Wildcats 45
The Lady Bobcats pulled away in the second half.
JCJC led 27-22 at halftime and limited Bishop State to a 37 percent shooting night from the field. The Lady Bobcats outrebounded the Lady Wildcats, 38-28.
Tanecka Carey had 14 points and nine rebounds to lead Jones, 2-1. Mechel’le Thomas added 11 points, while Lauren Douglas had 10 points and five rebounds. Tierro Frost had eight points and six rebounds.
April Montgomery and Christy Reese had 10 points each for Bishop State, 1-2.
