Delgado takes two from JCJC

 NEW ORLEANS, La. – It was a tough night for the Jones County Junior College basketball teams here Thursday.

Homestanding Delgado, La., Community College took a pair of games from Jones. The Lady Dolphins edged JCJC, 68-66, while the Delgado men’s team posted a 94-83 decision.

The Bobcats will be on the road again Tuesday at Bishop State Community College in Mobile, Ala. The women’s game tips off at 5:15 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7:15 p.m.

 JCJC’s next home game will be on Nov. 15 vs. Northeast Mississippi Community College. The women’s game begins at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7 p.m. and both games will be televised on

Lady Dolphins 68, Lady Bobcats 66

It was a close game throughout, but the Lady Dolphins prevailed in the end.

Southern Miss commit Tanecka Carey poured in 27 points to lead Jones, 1-1. New Orleans product Mechel’Le Thomas, Kiana Harris and Elyssa McKenzie added 9 points each.

Raven Holmes had 14 and Shaquinta James 13 for Delgado, 1-1.

The Lady Dolphins led 31-30 at halftime.

Dolphins 94, Bobcats 83

Delgado built up a big lead in the first half and went on to the victory.

Brandon Givens paced Jones, 0-2, with 30 points. Heidelberg freshman Kelvin Nixon added 18, Derrious Gilmore had 12 and Kadeem Fleming had 11.

The Dolphins, 1-1, got 28 points from Brandon Diggs, 23 from Rashaun Claiborne, 21 from Renard Smith and 14 from Jauries Thomas.

Delgado led 52-34 at halftime.
