Lady Bobcats to play Meridian Friday for Region 23 title

ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats will play for the Region 23 championship in women’s soccer against Meridian Community College.
The game will take place at 5 p.m. on Friday at Tom Shepherd Field on the campus of Hinds Community College in Raymond.
The winner of that game will advance to the district tournament at the site of the Region 14 winner on Nov. 6. Tyler Junior College (Texas) is in Region 14 and is the nation’s top-ranked team.
Head coach Dolores Deasley’s Lady Bobcats captured their first-ever MACJC championship at home on Sunday with a 1-0 overtime victory over Hinds Community College.
JCJC is 14-2-1 on the season, has won ten games in a row and has posted 11 shutouts.
Meridian is 9-1-1 on the year and defeated the Lady Bobcats 4-3 on Sept. 16 in Meridian. JCJC has not lost since that game.
On the men’s side of the regional tournament, state runnerup Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College faces Meridian at 7 p.m. on Thursday in a play-in game. The winner of that game meets state champion Hinds for the region championship at 7 p.m. on Friday. The men’s Region 23 champion will also travel to the site of the Region 14 winner for a district game.
The winner of the women’s district tournament will go to the NJCAA Nationals Nov. 18-21 in Topeka, Kan. The men’s national tournament will be Nov. 18-21 in Tyler, Texas.
