POPLARVILLE – Freshman Danica Roberts scored in the final minute of play to give the Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats a dramatic, 2-1 victory over Pearl River Community College here Saturday night.

The victory almost wraps up the South Division title for JCJC.

The Lady Bobcats, winners of six straight games, are now 10-2-1 overall and 5-1 in division play. They still must play at Co-Lin on Tuesday and will close the regular season by hosting Southwest on Friday.

If they win those two games, then they will claim the division title outright and will host the MACJC State Tournament on Oct. 23-24.

Saturday’s game was scoreless at halftime.

PRCC scored first in the second half to take a 1-0 lead.

Roberts was later fouled in the box and made the penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1. She then scored the game-winner in the 89th minute of play.

“It was a great individual effort to get the game-winner,” said Lady Bobcat head coach Dolores Deasley. “It was a great team effort to come from behind and get the win.”

Pearl River falls to 9-2-1 overall, 3-2-1 in the division.

Tuesday’s games at Co-Lin begin at 5:30 p.m., while Friday’s home games vs. Southwest start at 2 p.m.
