JCJC Announces Homecoming Court 2010

ELLISVILLE–Jones County Junior College announces its 2010 Homecoming Court. Elections were held in September and students chose the following ladies to represent them during Homecoming.
Queen: Blair Miller is from Laurel majoring in elementary education. At JCJC she is a member of the Bobcat Brigade, Jones Ambassadors, the Student Government Association, Science Club, Wesley Foundation, and she is the secretary for Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honor society. Last year, Blair won the title of “JCJC’s Next Top Model”, she received the Letter “J” Award, served as a JCJC Freshman Maid last year and earned the Lillian Davis Saul Foundation Scholarship. In high school she was in the West Jones show choir, Beta club, Jones County TGIF, Student Council, Peer Council, Best Club, Mu Alpha Theta, FCA, Bible Club, and Spanish Honor Society. Other honors include being named as Miss West Jones High School, being inducted into the West Jones Hall of Fame and graduating with High Honors and as a Mississippi Scholar. Her future plans include graduating from Jones County Junior College and earning a degree in elementary education from the University of Southern Mississippi. Blair’s parents are Lance and Dena Green and Paul Miller.
Escorting Miller will be Daniel Rose of Laurel. The mechanical engineering major is a member of the JCJC Engineering Society and Vice President of Leadership for Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. He earned the Letter “J” Award, the Wofford Reynolds Price Physics Award and was selected as a Tullos Scholar. His future plans include pursuing his degree at Mississippi State University. Daniel’s parents are Lorre and Richard Rose.
Student Body Maid: Sarah Beth Hinton is a sophomore broadcast journalism major from Bay Springs. At Jones, she is a member of the Jones Ambassadors, PTK, the yearbook staff, the Baptist Student Union, and the Student Government Association. Sarah Beth also received the Letter “J” Award, and JCJC Foundation and Journalism scholarships. Her plans include furthering her education at MSU and double majoring in public relations and broadcast journalism. Sarah Beth’s parents are Bobby and Elizabeth Hinton.
Escorting Hinton is Cody Tyner of Laurel. He is majoring in Kinesiology. Cody plans to continue his education at Mississippi State University. His parents are Rachelle and Chris Tyner.
Sophomore Maid:Laurel native, Lindsay Ishee is majoring in nursing. Her JCJC activities and honors at Jones include earning the Letter “J” Award, being a member of the Ambassadors, Bobcat Brigade, Science Club, Concert Choir, and College Republicans and is the director of fundraising for PTK. The West Jones graduate was involved in various activities including Beta Club, Math and Science Team, FCA, TGIF, Future Leaders of Jones County, Teenage Republicans, Mu Alpha Theta, Science Club, Spanish Club, Historical Society, and Show Choir. Her honors include being a Mississippi Scholar, Hall of Fame, graduating Summa Cum Laude, Spanish Honor Society and earning a Spanish Academic Award. After graduating from JCJC, Lindsay plans to be a nurse practitioner after earning her nursing degree at Mississippi University for Women, and opening a clinic. Her parents are Lisa and Tim Ishee, who teaches agriculture science at JCJC.
Ishee’s escort is Tyler Valentine of Ellisville. The JCJC sophomore business major is a Jones Ambassador. In high school Tyler was busy as Senior Class President, a member of Teens Getting Involved for the Future (TGIF), and playing baseball. The Hall of Famer and Mississippi Scholar plans to continue his education at Ole Miss. Tyler’s parents are Connie and Billy Valentine.
Sophomore Maid: Abby Leeof Enterprise is majoring in elementary education. At JCJC, she works as the community assistant in women’s housing and is a member of the Bobcat Brigade. Her honors include being an officer for PTK and earning the Letter “J” Award. Abby was busy in high school serving as the captain of the cheerleading squad, and was a member of the Beta Club, FBLA, SADD, and singing in the chorus. She graduated from Enterprise with High Honors. Her plans include earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from USM, and teaching and coaching cheerleading. Timmy and Linda Lee are Abby’s parents.
Lee’s escort is Nathan Burkett of Columbia. The aerospace engineering major was the salutatorian of his high school, a member of the Hall of Fame, trumpet soloist in the Columbia band, and the 3A State Tennis Boy’s Singles Runner-up. At Jones he on the tennis team, JC Jazz band, and PTK. Nathan plans on continuing his aerospace studies at Georgia Tech while working at NASA. His parents are Ken and Angie Burkett.
Freshman Maid: Jamie Hinton of Laurel is an elementary education major. At Jones, Jamie is a member of the Student Government Association, Science Club, Concert Choir and Bobcat Brigade. At Northeast Jones high school, Hinton was involved in student council, Spanish Club, and was on the yearbook staff. She was a class officer and selected as Most Beautiful. After graduating from JCJC, Jamie plans on attending the University of Southern Mississippi. Her parents are James and Kerrie Hinton.
Hinton’s escort is Ladd Rhodes from Gulfport. The business major is busy at Jones as a member of the Bobcat Baseball team. Ladd’s future plans include continuing his education at Mississippi State University. His parents are Joseph and Karen Rhodes.
Freshman Maid: Katie Pittman is majoring in nursing. The Raleigh native is a member of the JCJC Bobcat Brigade and Student Government Association. Her Raleigh High School activities included Beta club, Math and Science Team, playing for the Lady Lion softball team, serving as Class President, Teen Council President, Student Council member, FCA, FFA, Enviro-thon, and Quiz Bowl. Katie also enjoyed 4-H and volunteering with the American Red Cross. Her academic achievements include being selected as Most Intellectual by her teachers and peers, graduating with Highest Honors and class historian. She was also elected Miss Raleigh High School and was honored by the DAR with the Good Citizen Award and the Best All-Around Award. Her future plans include attending the University Medical School to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Katie’s parents are Teresa Pittman and the late Brother Rusty Pittman.
Katie’s escort is Caleb McCarty from Raleigh. The computer information systems technology and networking major was busy in high school serving on the student council, FCA and playing football. He was elected as Class favorite and ‘Wittiest’ at Raleigh. His plans include going to Texas Tech to earn a degree in computer hardware engineering. Caleb’s parents are Ronnie and Darla McCarty.
The JCJC Homecoming court will also have represented as the flower girl, Audrey Kate Burnham or “Pickle”, of Collins. She goes to JCJC pre-school and is the daughter of Dr. Matthew and Dana Burnham. Mason Phillips, a kindergartener at Ellisville Elementary School, will serve as crown bearer for the 2010 Homecoming Court. He is the son of Kenny and Erica Phillips.
