JCJC Celebrates Homecoming 2010

Homecoming Day, Saturday, October 9, is slated to be an entire day of fun for all ages. Events will begin at 9 a.m. with a reception for alumni and friends outside the Terrell Tisdale Library, near the arbor and water fountain.
ELLISVILLE–Plans are underway to make Homecoming at Jones County Junior College a special event. This year’s theme is “Jones, A Rich Heritage, A Promising Future”. A 50-year reunion celebration will begin on Friday, October 8 with the annual JCJC Pigskin/Roundball Homecoming Golf Classic. The 3-man select shot event at the Dixie Golf Club in Laurel includes a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m., followed by registration at 7:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The event, which is sponsored by the JCJC Women’s Hardwood Club and the JCJC End Zone Club, is a fund-raiser for the teams. On Friday evening at 5 p.m., four reunions will be held for the Ellisville High School and JCJC classes of 1960, the Jones County Agriculture High School class of 1955 and the JCAHS class of 1950. The reunions will be held in the C.L. Neill Student Center for class members and their guests with a dinner at 6:00 p.m. For more information call the Alumni office at 477-4145.
At 10:30 a.m. the JCJC Homecoming Parade will wind through the streets of Ellisville and the campus. The parade will feature floats made by the student body, as well as the Maroon Typhoon Marching Band, JCJC cheerleaders, Touch of Gold, and of course, the 2010 Homecoming Queen and her court. Following the parade, at 11:30 a.m., the Alumni Association is hosting a luncheon for alumni and friends of Jones County Junior College. This year the Ellisville High School and JCJC classes of 1960, the Jones County Agriculture High School class of 1955, and JCAHS class of 1950 will be honored. The 2010 Honor Alumni will be recognized at the luncheon. At 11:45 a.m. the band, cheerleaders, students and friends will be cheering on the football team at the Bobcat Walk as they enter the stadium by the tennis complex. Bobcat Club tailgating begins at noon at the tennis complex.
The Homecoming Football game festivities will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the pre-game marching band show on the Sim Cooley Football Field at Bobcat Stadium. The game against Hinds Community College will begin at 2 p.m. At halftime, the Homecoming Court will be presented with the crowning of the 2010 Homecoming Queen, Blair Miller, from Laurel. Also during halftime, the JCJC, JCAHS, and the Ellisville High School honored classes, the 2010 Honor Alumni, and the State Championship Winning Bobcat Tennis team will be honored at this time. The festivities will end with a performance by the Maroon Typhoon and Touch of Gold.
