ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Bobcats snapped a 3-game losing streak with a 24-6 victory over Holmes Community College here Thursday night at Bobcat Stadium/Sim Cooley Field.

JCJC improves to 2-3 on the season, while Holmes falls to 0-5.

JCJC quarterback Tromarcus Toney completed 15-of-21 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns, while Laurel sophomore wide receiver Kylan Pollard had seven receptions for 74 yards and a score. Deuce Coon had three receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown. Running backs DeAnthony Pickens and Justin Gaines rushed for 57 yards each.

David Ahola rushed for 74 yards on 16 carries for Holmes.

The Bobcats got started quickly.

They took the opening kickoff and drove 60 yards in six plays for a score. Toney connected with Coon on a 14-yard scoring pass. An 18-yard pass from Toney to tight end Keghan Livingston was a big play in the drive. Dylan Sobiesk kicked the extra point and JCJC led 7-0 with 11:56 showing.

On the Bobcats’ next possession, they drove 58 yards in 10 plays. A 40-yard pass from Toney to Coon put the ball on the 1-yard line. But the Bobcats lost two yards on the next three plays and Sobiesk came on to boot a 20-yard field goal to make it 10-0 with 5:21 showing in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs got on the board on their next possession when they moved from their own 25-yard line to the Jones’ 12. The drive stalled and Jonathan Smith booted a 29-yard field goal with 2:09 left in the first quarter to make it 10-3.

JCJC then took the kickoff and drove 57 yards in seven plays for a score. Toney connected with Pollard on a 5-yard pass on the first play of the second quarter to make it 17-3 at the 14:54 mark.

Holmes then recovered a Bobcat fumble at the JCJC 47. They moved to the Bobcat 32, but turned the ball over on downs.

However, the Bulldogs would then come up with another fumble recovery at the Bobcat 28. Seven plays later, Smith connected on a 25-yard field goal and JCJC led 17-6 with 7:50 left in the first half.

The Bulldogs had a chance to trim the lead in the third quarter when Harry Peoples appeared to have scored on a 66-yard run. But Holmes was called for a hold and the score was negated.

Later in the quarter, Pickens ran to his left for an apparent 15-yard run score, but the Bobcats were called for holding on the play. Sobiesk would then misfire on a 45-yard field goal attempt and the score remained the same.

JCJC’s final touchdown came with 7:34 left in the game when Toney scored on a 1-yard sneak. That ended an 82-yard, eight-play drive. Sobiesk’s kick ended the scoring.

The Bobcats ended the game with 206 yards passing, 117 yards rushing, 323 yards of total offense and 17 first downs. Holmes had 73 yards rushing, 104 yards pass, 177 yards of total offense and 12 first downs.

JCJC won despite losing three fumbles. Holmes did not turn the ball over.

The Bobcats will host Hinds at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, for Homecoming. The Bulldogs visit Mississippi Delta on Thursday, Oct. 7.
