JCJC soccer teams run winning streaks to four games

DECATUR – The Jones County Junior College soccer teams each picked up their fourth straight victories here Thursday afternoon at East Central Community College.
Manuel Ferrer scored four goals and had two assists to spark the Bobcats to a 7-2 victory over the Warriors.
Ferrer got the two first two goals off of assists by Giuliano Mancini. Nick Peden then scored the next two goals for JCJC with Ferrer getting both of those assists. Ferrer then got the fifth goal with Peden getting the assist. Ferrer got the sixth goal for the Bobcats and Mancini had the assist. Patrick Coates then had the final goal of the game for JCJC with Mancini getting his fourth assist of the game.
The Bobcats are now 6-5 on the year.
The Lady Bobcats improved to 8-2-1 with a 3-0 decision over the Lady Warriors. Danica Roberts opened the scoring with a penalty kick. JCJC led 1-0 at halftime.
In the second half, Macey Endris scored on a corner kick off an assist by Trahrissa Monroe. Roberts ended the scoring with a goal of an assist by Britnee Kovacevich. Michelle Brumfield was in goal for JCJC.
The Bobcat soccer teams will host Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in crucial South Division matches on Wednesday.
The Lady Bobcats are 3-1 in the division, while the Lady Bulldogs are 3-0-1 and sit atop the league standings. The MGCCC men are 4-0 in division play, while Pearl River is 3-1 and Jones is 2-2.
The top two teams from each division qualify for the MACJC State Tournament, which will be held Oct. 23-24 at the site of the South Division women’s winner.
The JCJC vs. MGCCC women’s game begins at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 4 p.m.
