ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College is hosting the annual Southeast Mississippi Band Director’s Association Clinic February 2 and 3, 2018.  Almost 1000 middle and high school students from district five auditioned earlier in the month to earn the right to participate in this clinic and concert.

JCJC’s Symphonic Band will begin the weekend clinic on Friday, February 2, by entertaining the students with a concert at 1:30 p.m., in the M.P. Bush Fine Arts Auditorium.  The concert will include musical arrangements, “Flourish for Wind Band,” by Ralph Vaughn Williams, “Three Ayers from Gloucester,” by Hugh M. Stuart and “Rush,” by Samuel Hazo. This concert is free and open to the public.

High school and junior high school students will then continue practicing their concert pieces Friday afternoon and evening, to prepare for their Saturday, February 3, concerts.  About 400 students in the two senior high and two junior high bands will be featured in concert Saturday, beginning at 1:30 p.m., in the M.P. Bush Fine Arts Auditorium.  These concerts are also free and open to the public.

JCJC has hosted the SEMBDA clinic since it began more than 35 years ago.  Jones hosted its own Band Clinic the weekend of January 26-27, with about 400 students performing in a 1p.m. concert.
