Lady Bobcats shut out previously unbeaten Pearl River

 ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats picked up a big South Division victory here on a hot Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Soccer Field.

Liversedge, England, freshman Danica Roberts scored in the 42nd minute to give JCJC a 1-0 decision over previously undefeated Pearl River Community College.

Roberts took a pass from George County sophomore Dana Ivey and knocked it in the goal. Mobile, Ala., freshman Michelle Brumfield recorded the shutout in goal.

The Lady Bobcats are now 4-1-1 overall and 1-1 in division play. Pearl River falls to 4-1 overall, 1-1 in the division. The Lady Bobcats will travel to Meridian Community College for a 3 p.m. game on Thursday.

In the men’s game, the Wildcats broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 72nd minute and defeated Jones, 2-1.

The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute when Gautier sophomore Nick Peden scored. Pearl River tied it in the 30th minute when Jacob Foulon scored.

The Wildcats got the game-winner when Curtis Sangbarani scored.

JCJC started the game with B.K. Hammons in goal, but he had to leave in the first half with an injury. Newcomer Deron Magee, a freshman from Hattiesburg, finished the game in goal for the Bobcats.

JCJC drops to 2-5 overall, 0-2 in division play. Pearl River is now 6-0 overall, 2-0 in the division.

Both JCJC teams resume division play on Saturday at home vs. Co-Lin. The women’s game begins at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 4 p.m. The Pearl River teams will host Hinds next Tuesday.
