Bobcats swept at Gulf Coast

PERKINSTON – It was a long night for the Jones County Junior College soccer teams in more ways than one here Saturday at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
The Lady Bobcats dropped a 1-0 decision to MGCCC, while the JCJC men fell 2-1 in overtime.
The women’s game was scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m., but no game officials were present. The referees did not arrive until two hours later and the women’s game began almost two hours late – around 7:30 p.m.
The men’s game started between 9:30 and 10 p.m. and did not end until around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
The Lady Bobcats controlled the game for the most part, but Gulf Coast managed to get one goal and post the victory. The JCJC women are now 3-1-1 overall and 0-1 in South Division play. Gulf Coast is 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the league.
In the men’s game, Gulf Coast scored in the fourth minute of play. JCJC tied the game when South Jones’ sophomore Josh Corley scored off an assist by Northwest Rankin sophomore Patrick Coates in the 35th minute.
The Bulldogs got the game-winning goal on a free kick in the 7th minute of the second overtime.
The JCJC men are now 2-4 overall, 0-1 in the division, while Gulf Coast is 5-1 overall, 1-0 in the division.
JCJC hosts Pearl River on Tuesday. The women’s game begins at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 4 p.m. Gulf Coast goes to Co-Lin on Tuesday.
