JCJC celebrates Homecoming 2016

ELLISVILLE – Plans are underway to make Homecoming at Jones County Junior College a special event. The weekend of activities begins Friday, October 14. The college will begin Homecoming festivities by recognizing two JCJC alumni at the Honor Alumni Dinner. Aaron Heidelberg of Ellisville and Martha Rogers Tisdale, a native of Collins and currently living in Hattiesburg, will be honored at the 6 p.m. event held at the Ronald E. Whitehead Advanced Technology Center. Reservations for the dinner can be made through the Alumni and Foundation Office at 601-477-4145 or by emailing, firstname.lastname@example.org.
The 61-year reunion for the 1955 JCJC class and 1955 Football Reunion Dinner will meet in the Banquet Hall of the C.L. Neill Student Center Friday evening at 5 p.m.
Homecoming Day, Saturday, October 15, is slated with numerous activities for a day of fun for all ages. Events will begin at 9 a.m. with a reception for alumni and friends at the Terrell Tisdale Library. At 10 a.m. the JCJC Homecoming Parade will wind through the streets of Ellisville and the campus. The Homecoming theme this year is, “Maroon and Gold #theresnoplacelikeJONES.” The parade will feature floats made by the student body incorporating the theme, as well as the Maroon Typhoon Marching Band, JCJC cheerleaders, Touch of Gold, and of course, the 2016 Homecoming Queen and her court. Parade Marshal is JCJC Baseball Coach, Chris Kirtland whose team came home with Mississippi’s first National Baseball Championship last spring.
At 10:45 a.m. the public is also invited to join the Jones family for a pep rally following the parade in front of the C.L. Neill Student Center. At 11 a.m. the 50-year reunion luncheon will honor members of the JCJC class of 1966. The reunion will be held in the C.L. Neill Student Center for class members and their guests.
Tailgating under the Tents begins at 11:30 a.m. at the tennis complex at the Sim Cooley Football Field for $10 per person. The Ellisville High School classes of 1960 through 1965 will also be tailgating “under the tents.” Additionally, the 2001 MACJC Championship football team is making plans to tailgate in this area. The Homecoming pre-game festivities will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the marching band’s pre-game show on the Sim Cooley Football Field at Bobcat Stadium. The game against Pearl River Community College will begin at 2 p.m.
At halftime, the Homecoming Court will be presented with the crowning of the 2016 Homecoming Queen, Carsyn Arender. Also during halftime, the JCJC and the Ellisville High School honored classes, and the 2016 Honor Alumni will be recognized at this time.
