ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College now joins the list of major universities who have a bronze mascot on their campus in effort to create school pride. When the bronze bobcat was unveiled in front of students, faculty and staff at a pep rally, VP of Advancement and the Alumni and Foundation Executive Director, Charlie Garretson explained getting the bronze bobcat was a group effort.  Alumni and the Student Government Association have been fundraising over the last year to purchase the $7,800 dollar mascot.
Sonya Dykes, SGA coordinator/sponsor explained, “Having a bobcat statue on campus will add to the tradition and pride that students have for JCJC.  It will be a focal point for pictures for students and alumni, and it will be a lasting landmark for the campus.”
The new bronze bobcat is currently housed in the Terrell Tisdale Library and will become a permanent fixture in the Student Center Plaza in front of the cafeteria, after the pedestrian plaza renovations are complete.
