ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College’s Office of Student Affairs will be hosting its annual Black History Celebration on Tuesday, February 10, at 10:15 a.m. in the JCJC Fine Arts Auditorium. The program’s theme, “'The Value of Your Education,” will feature guest speaker, Dr. Dennis Kimbro. The public is invited to this free event.
“It's an honor to have someone you respect and admire to come to your campus to speak to your students. I've followed Dr. Kimbro's success for a while and I've been challenged with my own personal goal of writing and speaking as I continue to work in education,” said JCJC Dean of Students, Dr. Samuel Jones.
Dr. Kimbro is also a recipient of the Dale Carnegie Personal Achievement award. Those that attend the program featuring internationally renowned speaker, a best-selling author of five books, a writing partner and master trainer for the prestigious Napoleon Hill Foundation, and business faculty member at Clark Atlanta University School of Business Administration, will get a lot of good and useful information. He will be addressing the audience on the theme for this year's event with an extra emphasis on how to be successful, said Dr. Jones.
“Dr. Kimbro's failure and success is a perfect example of what is possible when you use your education and your mind to create opportunities. I wanted a speaker this year who would challenge our campus community (students, faculty, staff) to not only think about success, but to learn from different examples of how to be successful. This is why I wanted to focus on a leadership program rather than just a black history program this year,” said Dr. Jones.
Dr. Kimbro received his B.A. degree from the University of Oklahoma, and a M.A. and doctorate degree from Northwestern University where he studied wealth and poverty in underdeveloped countries. In 2005, the National Black MBA Association presented him with the 2005 H. Naylor Fitzhugh award, recognizing him as one of the top professors in the nation. His life's work is to share this valuable knowledge with people of all races, socio-economic levels, cultures and beliefs.
Dr. Kimbro’s speaking clients include: General Motors, Walt Disney Corp., Citigroup, Frito-Lay, Eli Lilly, Apple Computers, Exxon Mobil, NIKE, Gallup Organization, Ohio State ‘Buckeye’ football team, Notre Dame ‘Fighting Irish’ football team, Kansas City Royals baseball team, Denver Nuggets basketball team, and many other groups of people who want to improve their lives and increase their success in life and in their careers.
