Lady Bobcats blank Itawamba in season opener

 FULTON – The Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats got off to a great start for the 2010 soccer season.

The Lady Bobcats blanked Itawamba Community College 3-0 here Saturday afternoon. The JCJC men’s team was not as fortunate, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Indians.

JCJC will open its home season on Tuesday vs. Northwest Mississippi Community College. The women’s game begins at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 4 p.m.

In Saturday’s women’s contest, the Lady Bobcats took a 1-0 lead when Madison Central freshman Macey Endris scored off an assist by George County sophomore Arlette Cochran. That’s the way it stood at halftime.

In the second half, West Jones’ sophomore Bridget Dennis scored off an assist by Endris to make it 2-0. The final goal came when Madison Central freshman Chelsea Wooten scored off an assist by Dennis.

Mobile, Ala., freshman Michelle Brumfield was in goal for JCJC.

In the men’s game, ICC took a 2-0 lead at halftime.

JCJC’s only goal came in the second half when the “South Florida” duo connected. Manuel Ferrer scored off an assist by Giuliano Mancini. Both players are freshmen from Cypress Bay High School in Weston, Fla.
