ELLISVILLE – English instructor at Jones County Junior College and new author, Dr. David Lowery is inviting the public to join in celebrating the release of his new book of poetry, “Bounded in a Nutshell” on Thursday, November 13, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Laurel Library, located at 530 Commerce St. for a book signing.

The former Northeast Jones high school instructor and Quitman high school graduate, Dr. Lowery said the book began as a challenge with his wife, Jennifer more than two years ago. His book, “Bounded in a Nutshell” is the result of his “artistic” challenge.

“In late 2011, Jennifer and I decided that we would have a ‘year of challenges’ in 2012. We wanted to do something each month that we considered a challenge--something we had never done before,” explained Dr. Lowery. “I started writing poetry and because it was so different from the academic type of writing I had been doing, I decided to continue. When I had a significant number of poems, I decided to do something with this collection that I had been working on.”

The decision to pursue publishing his first collection of poetry has resulted in, “Bounded in a Nutshell.” The online description of the book enables readers to be, “able to see life in all of its varied eccentricities. From simple reflections of family life to vivid images of places that he has visited, Lowery is able to capture the importance and simplicity of day-to-day living in his poems. His keen eye makes note of the little things in life-effects that we most often ignore-and presents to the reader musings that help us see the importance of everything around us.”

Readers might even catch a reference to his favorite author, Shakespeare! Dr. Lowery's book can be found in the JCJC Bookstore, Xlibris.com, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble and at the Laurel Library on November 13, at his book signing from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

The 2012 Mississippi Humanities Council Teacher of the Year and two-time STAR Teacher recipient, Dr. Lowery holds a doctorate degree in English education from Mississippi State University, both graduate and undergraduate degrees from The University of Southern Mississippi and his Associate's Degree from JCJC. Some of his previous articles have appeared in “The Reading Professor, Journal of Case Studies in Education” and “Mississippi Professional Educators Journal.” In addition to teaching at Jones, Dr. Lowery has taught education courses as an adjunct professor at Mississippi State University and William Carey University. Dr. Lowery and his wife, Dr. Jennifer H. Lowery, have two sons, Noah and Owen.
