ELLISVILLE – The No. 19 Jones County Junior College Bobcats relied on Jacob Chancellor to do the placekicking duties the past two years and the punting chores last year.

But Chancellor is gone and the No. 19 Bobcats will be using two young men to replace him.

Oak Grove freshman Dylan Sobiesk (5-9, 200) will be the JCJC placekicker and Quitman freshman Slater Smith (6-3, 205) will be the Bobcat punter. Jones will also have a new deep snapper – freshman Robert Hanna (5-9, 230).

“All three of those guys are new,” said head coach Eddie Pierce. “They are all doing well at this point. Slater was with us last year, but did not kick. Dylan has a tremendous leg and gets the ball up quickly.

“Robert has just worked himself into a position. I am really proud of him making this football team.”

South Jones freshman Keghan Livingston (6-3, 225) backs up Hanna at deep snapper.

Those players are working under the direction of special teams’ coach Lacon Sheppard.

As far as return specialists are concerned, the Bobcats are still looking for the right combination at this point.

Pierce said Deuce Coon (5-11, 190), a freshman out of Redemptorist High School in Baton Rouge, La., and Antonio Parker (5-11, 185), a freshman from Destrehan High School in New Orleans, are leading the way as punt returners. Wayne County freshman Malik Lofton (6-0, 180) has been returning kickoffs.

The Bobcats will open the season at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Mississippi Delta Community College. The game will air on WGDQ-FM, 93.1, and on (audio only) with Lance Pittman on the call and Mark Easley providing commentary.

Airtime will be 5:30 p.m.
