ELLISVILLE-About 135 first through sixthgraders spent one week at Jones County Junior College taking Kids’ College classes. They learned about the anatomy of creatures, science secrets, tasted international cuisine and created masterpieces inspired by great artists at the 8th annual Kids’ College summer camp.
While experiencing a variety of educational activities and enjoying the college atmosphere and friends, campers rotated through six different courses. Zoology with JCJC Science Division Chair, Eric Shows focused on the internal parts of creatures like owls, lizards, crabs and skates, through dissection. Sandra Mills taught physical science including basic chemical and physical phenomena from everyday life. Tina Walters exposed students to the world of insects, spiders and their “strengths” and differences.  Campers also learned about famous artists and tried to replicate the artists’ style with their own flare.  Another favorite for Kids’ College regulars was the P.E. and the international cuisine courses.
JCJC English Instructor and Kids’ College Coordinator Missie Meeks explained this camp is a way to reach out to kids in the community, expose them to the college and to show them various new concepts in a fun and exciting way.
